What did you smoke away this month?
If you have not decided to stop smoking yet, you might want to take a step back, and look at it from a different perspective – by considering what you had to give up during the past month…
Here are a few basic examples of what you could have done with the money you spent on cigarettes – calculated on the price of a mainstream (older) brand packet of cigarettes. Decide for yourself which ones apply to your particular situation:
1. You could have bought two loaves of bread per day – sixty in total.
2. You could have paid the insurance on your car.
3. You could have dined out, creating a special evening with someone you care about. Can you calculate the value it would contribute to your relationship?
4. You could have added some clothing or shoes to your wardrobe.
5. You could have added the spent money to your vacation kitty – which would have added up to a pretty penny over the course of a year.
6. You could have rented and watched a new DVD every night.
7. You could have pampered yourself with beauty treatments (ok, ladies only…:).
8. You could have bought a brand new computer game.
9. You could have bought a treat for yourself every day.
10. You could have slept over somewhere for a romantic night with someone special.
11. You could have taken the family out and treated them.
12. You could have bought a couple of new CD’s, or a few DVD’s.
13. You could have paid for DSTV.
14. You could have sent your car for a valet – twice.
15. You could have spent it on your hobby, and had repeated pleasure from it.
Once you start thinking, you will probably be able to create a list of your own about what you COULD have done with the money you spent on tobacco. The reality is, however, that unless you stop smoking, you will have to keep making these sacrifices.
So – YOU decide: Was it worth it, or not?
