Vaping used to be a viable alternative to smoking. Soon, not so much…
The TOBACCO PRODUCTS AND ELECTRONIC DELIVERY SYSTEMS CONTROL BILL is in front of parliament at the moment. Approval is just a matter of time. But how will it affect YOU as a vaper?
Firstly, vaping and cigarettes are now controlled in the same way. So, no more vaping in any enclosed public/work spaces, or any space close to an operable window.
- No more vaping anywhere if there is a child or non-smoker present.
- NO more vaping in the communal area of your townhouse complex.
- NO more vaping in any flat or townhouse if it will affect others.
Secondly, the minister may – at their own discretion – ban smoking and vaping if it is deemed that it will cause a fire hazard or expose the public to the chemicals contained in vaping and/or cigarette products.
(after all, you have to exhale some of it…)
Thirdly, people who control any premises, whether it be commercial, industrial or public, are responsible for enforcing the law.
Also…
Both cigarettes and vaping products have to be packaged in plain white boxes from now on, with no reference to any characteristics of the product.
And none of it may be advertised.
You will also not be able to buy any vaping product or tobacco product “at any educational establishment, health establishment or a hospitality, sporting, entertainment, music, dance or social venue or event”.
So if your cartridge runs dry, sorry.
- Producers of vaping- and tobacco products are not allowed to sponsor any events.
- Neither vaping- nor tobacco products may be sold using vending machines any more.
- NO more vaping (or buying vaping products) for kids under 18.
- You will not be allowed to buy vaping products online, or have it delivered via post or courier.
Plus…
The minister of health also gains sweeping powers to regulate all of the allowed features of any vaping- or tobacco product, including the right to ban any or all flavours.
Lastly…
Vapers will be subject to sin tax – just like cigarettes.
So where does that leave YOU?
There was a time when vaping was considered a sensible, viable alternative to smoking tobacco products.
Now it seems there is – in terms of convenience and practicality – not much benefit to vaping any more.
Not to mention that most vaping products contain nicotine anyway. Read the product info.
